The Lost West

I got lost in the mountains of Montana.
In Montana's backcountry I walked off the trail and into a stand of Douglas-fir unlike any other. A hundred years old — with stems 1.5" across. Rings packed so tight they look like fingerprints.
These trees sprouted after 1910, the point when we declared war on wildfire and silenced the fires that had shaped these forests for thousands of years. They grew up in the dark, packed shoulder to shoulder, starving for light.
But they never stopped growing.
The landscape carries its grief and its grandeur together. I know some of what's been lost out here, yet the West is still the most beautiful place I've ever stood.
Perdido means lost — both kinds. The West that was lost, and the West where you can still get lost. Gone but still there.
The first release: 1926-A
100 annual rings, the dial cut from a 100-year-old suppressed sapling. Count outward from 1926.
Every Oeste Perdido dial is a real cross-section of one of those trees. A century of drought, floods, bitter cold and scorching summer days, all on your wrist, still keeping time.
So you can see the heartbeat.
Sapphire caseback. A rotor that only turns because you're moving through your day.
The 1926-A is an automatic. No battery. It only runs because you carry it — and some things only stay alive if someone carries them forward.
In 1777, Abraham-Louis Perrelet built the first self-winding watch. In 2027, the automatic movement turns 250 — and our 1926 and 1927 editions will be there to celebrate.
The song
The Portuguese have a word for it: saudade — the presence of an absence. Love for something gone that's somehow still here. There's no English word for that feeling, but there's a whole Western landscape full of it.
Oeste Perdido started as a place, became a watch, and somewhere along the way became a song — three chords, slow, the way the light comes through the smoke in August. Gone, but still here.
