An inlay of the Clark Fork River decorates this pen. The river crosses 100 plus years of annual ring growth. It is filled with crushed lapis lazuli, a water blue gemstone formed during the earliest of time. The differences in ring widths show the climate, ecology, and history that shaped the last 100 plus years of Montana history. In 2022 the tree was harvested as part of a forest restoration project.

The first and last year of the tree’s chronology (early 1900's, 2022) are marked on the pen. It is not possible to add additional years or initials to this pen.

This pen can be made as a rollerball instead or a fountain pen, select option above.  Each pen comes with a wood box and information card.

The Forest

Example of a sappling tree used for Tree Ring Watches. In the rugged mountains of Montana, where century old trees grow slowly, wood acquires extraordinary character. In our forest restoration work, we harvest thousands of small trees, only a few have the character to make the grade as a Tree Ring Co. piece.

Gift Box and Display

Each watch comes mounted on a small wood slab nested inside a cherry veneer box. When not being worn, the display stand allows the watch to serve as a small desk or shelf clock.
